PETITION TO WITHDRAW AFTER THE FINAL DEADLINE
In accordance with Title 5, section 55024(c), excused withdrawals (EW) shall be allowed to students in extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances are defined as cases of accidents, illnesses, or other circumstances beyond the control of the student. A student or their representative may petition for an excused withdrawal due to extenuating circumstances within two years of the end of the term in which the course was completed. A student may request to use an excused withdrawal for only one course or all courses in a term depending on the reason for the request. It is possible a student, based on an illness for example, is not able to participate in an in-person course but is able to continue with online courses. If the petition is submitted after the last day of instruction for the course, a detailed student statement and supporting documentation are required in order to be reviewed. All complete petitions that are submitted after the last day of instruction will be reviewed by the Academic Policies and Procedures Committee. Excused withdrawals shall not be counted in progress probation and dismissal calculations, or toward the permitted number of withdrawals or enrollment attempts. For the purposes of the Federal Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy, an EW grade will be counted as units attempted. Therefore, students who are approved to receive an EW grade will not be entitled to a refund.
