What’s new in ITS?

Phishing and Ransomware (August 9, 2021)

What is phishing? Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails impersonating reputable companies in order to influence individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers. In the worst case, phishing can expose companies/colleges to ransom attacks, in which malicious software is used to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid. Protect your devices, protect your identity, and protect college data:

  • Do not share confidential information.
  • If messages sound too good to be true, they probably are.
  • Do not click links or open attachments from unknown senders.
  • Look at emails for signatures, and complete and authentic contact information.
  • Take training to refresh your knowledge.

Watch for training to stay ahead of phishing attacks. Let’s keep TC safe from cyberthreats!

New Classroom Technology and Furnishings

New instructional technology has been installed in several of our classrooms and labs. You may notice new teaching technology in the G building classrooms, CHEV, and some of Science labs. New furniture has also been supplied to many classrooms and lab spaces across campus. Take a peek into the T classrooms. It looks great and is comfortable, too!

Information Technology Services News: Tiered Access Security (August 2, 2021)

ITS works with technology changes and fights viruses daily to protect our system. This means that we must implement technology changes to ensure students, faculty, and staff are supported in all work locations, and our systems are protected in multiple ways. Recently, the ITC (Information Technology Committee) approved an effective change to enhance the level of security standards by implementing a tiered system.

This tiered system will be developed by internal staff using existing software and ready by the end of 2021:

  1. Privileged Access is reserved for:
    • High Tech Access Specialist
    • ITS Tech I & II
    • Network Administrator
    • IT Director
  2. Specialized Security Access is for those with elevated business impact
    • Developers
    • Sensitive business roles
    • High impact social media accounts
    • Area VP or approver
  3. General User Access is for all other roles and productivity scenarios.
