2FA provides a second layer of protection to deter unauthorized access to our system and will ensure our systems remain highly available. 2FA will be required for TC’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) service sometime in April (The implementation date will be announced).
What is 2FA?
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a second layer of security to protect our system and sensitive data from unauthorized users. The 2FA will use two forms of identity before allowing you access to the system:
A message is sent with a One-Time Passcode (OTP) to type in to complete the 2FA process. You may also install the Google Authenticator app on your phone or tablet for your convenience.
What does that mean for me?
Why has TC implemented 2FA?
How do I get started with 2FA?
First you must enable 2FA within MyTC for your account. Once you’ve enabled 2FA on your account you can choose how to authenticate. There are 4 methods to choose from and which one you choose is up to you.
Authenticate with mobile device
Authenticate with Personal Email
If you require HOTP tokens, kindly reach out to your supervisor
YubiKey Authentication
Am I required to install an app on my phone?
No. Although, the Google Authenticator app is the most convenient 2nd factor option, you are not required to install it on your device. If you are interested in the Google Authenticator app, it is a small app so it would take up little room on your phone. It’s free and can be installed on your cell or a tablet.
What if I don’t have a Wi-Fi connection or cellular reception?
Go to the Taft College web site and click on MyTC or you can type in the address bar, portalguard.taftcollege.edu. Enter your username and password with your OTP(One Time Passcode). (Sorry, you have to get an OTP to get a list of OTP’s)
On the right of your screen is your username with a down arrow. Click on it and select, “Edit Profile”.
Select “Printed One Time Passcodes”. It will give you a list of 10 OTP’s you can print and keep in a safe place. Remember to log out when you are finished.
